Academics

The academics module is the heart of Schoolence. It connects classes, lessons, subjects, assignments, and programs into one coherent workflow.

Classes

Classes group students together under teachers. Each class can have multiple subjects and teachers.

Who creates classes: School Admins

How it works:

  1. Admin creates a class (e.g., "Grade 10-A")
  2. Assigns subjects (Math, Science, English, etc.)
  3. Assigns teachers to each subject
  4. Enrolls students in the class

Lessons

Teachers create lessons within subjects and classes. Lessons can include:

  • Rich text — formatted content with headings, lists, and styling
  • PDFs — upload and embed documents
  • Media — images and external links
  • Resources — links to books and reference materials

Students access lessons from their dashboard or the Resources tab.

Assignments

Create assignments with:

  • Title and description — what students need to do
  • Due date — when it must be submitted
  • Attachments — reference materials or templates
  • Submission type — file upload, text entry, or both

The workflow: Teacher creates → Students submit → Teacher grades → Results published

Programs

Programs are structured academic tracks that bundle courses, modules, and sections.

  • Admins create programs (e.g., "Secondary Mathematics")
  • Courses sit within programs (e.g., "Algebra", "Geometry")
  • Modules sit within courses (e.g., "Linear Equations", "Quadratics")
  • Sections are individual lessons within modules

Programs provide curriculum structure. See Curriculum Builder for more on creating programs.
